Depths is a small tempera painting, 4 by 4 inches matted to 5 by 5 inches, framed simply but thoughtfully with a thin black inner border and a wider white mat. This piece explores a swirling mix of teal and turquoise, punctuated by areas of white, deep brown, and dark purple. The textured surface adds layers of movement and complexity, with patterns that recall cracked earth or worn stone. Creating this work was a way to move through a moment of artist’s block by focusing on color and surface, allowing the composition to develop naturally without pressure. The result is a compact study that feels simultaneously fluid and grounded—inviting a closer look at the subtle depths within the color and form.
